Cleaning your motorcycle is important for a number of reasons. It helps to keep the bike looking its best, and a clean motorcycle will also last longer and perform better. Regular cleaning can also help to prevent rust and corrosion. But it’s important that you clean your motorcycle the right way, which is why we here at Gina’s Motorsports of Monee have provided these helpful tips for you to get you started.

Washing Your Motorcycle

You should be regularly washing your motorcycle, about every couple of weeks or so, depending on how often you ride. Even if your bike doesn’t look dirty, it’s better to remove any dust and dirt that is starting to collect in the gears and on each surface than to wait until some of it starts to settle into the cracks.

When cleaning your motorcycle, it is important to use the correct products. For example, you should never use household cleaners on your bike. These products can damage the finish. Instead, use a motorcycle-specific cleaner that is designed to be gentle on the bike's finish. You can purchase these cleaners at most auto parts stores or online.

Cleaning Hard-to-Reach Areas

There may be some areas that are a little harder to reach. In order to ensure these spots still get cleaned, consider using a tool as simple as a toothbrush, which is gentle enough not to damage the bike, but still allows you to scrub away the dirt and grime.

Dry it Off Right Away

After washing a motorcycle, it is important to dry it off with a clean cloth. This will help to prevent any water spots from forming on the bike's surface. This can be done with something as simple as a clean rag, a chamois, or a soft towel. For the darker corners that may not air dry as easily, you can use a compressed air canister to push the moisture out.

Lubricating the Chain

There are some additional spots you’ll need to pay attention to before you’re done. To clean a motorcycle chain, you will need to use a brush or rag to remove any dirt and debris that is on the chain. Once the chain is clean, you will need to apply a lubricant to help keep it moving smoothly. You should be able to find this lubricant at your local automotive center.

Keeping your motorcycle clean is one of the easiest ways to keep it running smoothly and at peak performance.
