While riding gear is an important part of motorcycle safety, it isn’t all you need to stay safe on the road. While a durable helmet and riding jacket can protect you from falls and crashes, they aren’t much help with other emergency situations—such as roadside breakdowns or vehicle theft. For a list of helpful safety accessories you need for your motorcycle, be sure to read our article below.

Emergency Kit

You never know when a breakdown may occur, so it’s important to be prepared. Before you take your motorcycle for a ride, we encourage you to store a helpful roadside emergency kit somewhere on your model. Not only will you want to pack basic accessories, such as a flashlight, first aid supplies, and some non-perishable food, but tools as well. We recommend including jumper cables, a tire patch kit, spare fuses, as well as more common tools such as a wrench and pliers.

Reflective Clothing

Driving at night can be dangerous for motorcycles. They’re often much faster than cars, and easy to miss on badly lit roads. Make sure you’re visible to the drivers around you by investing in some reflective clothing, as well as some handy reflective tape. Make sure to apply the tape to each side of your motorcycle—as well as your helmet— to ensure you’re visible.

Bike Lock

Motorcycles are a popular target for thieves, and motorcycle theft is not uncommon. Thankfully, a thief can often be easily deterred by purchasing a durable bike lock for your model. However, if you’re extremely worried about theft, we recommend purchasing two different kinds of bike locks. This way, if a thief is able to remove one of your bike locks, they won’t have the time or tools necessary to remove the other.
